FG — Firm Ground
Firm Ground (FG) is the default surface for football boots and the one most players need. FG soleplates use moulded conical or bladed studs, usually eleven to thirteen of them, designed for natural grass that is dry to slightly soft — the condition of most pitches for most of the season. They give a balance of grip and release: enough bite to push off hard, but not so much that the foot locks into the ground when you turn. If you play on a normal grass pitch and only want one pair of boots, this is the surface to buy.
